Manchester is uniquely located at the beginning of the Hal Rogers Parkway, the major entrance into East Kentucky.  This makes Manchester the first and best place to begin your visit.  There is much to see and do in Eastern Kentucky and we can help you see it and do it..  As expensive as gas is a little planning can save you lots of money and our personnel have been trained to help make your visit the best ever.  Manchester and Clay county is noted for our abundance of redbud trails in the spring, fall foliage in autumn, and our abundant wildlife including White Tail Deer, wild Eastern Turkey, and Elk.  Kentucky has the largest Elk herd east of the Rocky Mountains with a population nearing 10,000.  By the way, Elk viewing sites are being constructed in the county now to provide tourists and visitors with an opportunity to view our Elk in their natural habitat.  Sites are on our maps.

In the summer of 2007 we opened our new Welcome Center.  It is large, spacious and fully accessible.  Along with our tourism department  we relocated our Chamber of Commerce and opend an African-American Museum to reflect on our rich ethnic heritage.  Manchester has over 200 years of rich culture from being the leading U.S supplier of salt during the late 1700s through the Civil War, coal production and Red Bird Purchase (part of the Daniel Boone National Forest).  Our new Gateway Welcome Center is still being changed and will have wall size maps with information on what to do and see while you are visiting here in the Manchester area.

We are working hard with all of the other counties in East Kentucky and have information on all that is to see and do in Eastern Kentucky (we might have missed one or two but...).  We will maintain an updated list of events and provide the most comprehensive collection of brochures across our region.  If you are looking to come to Eastern Kentucky to see our Elk, trail ride, or dig up your roots this is your first place to stop.  We are the go-to-guys for East Kentucky Adventurism Tourism.

What's New In Manchester...

The City just purchased Big Hickory Golf Course located in the Beech Creek area.  It has been one of the best kept secrets in the mountains and now when you visit Manchester you can play a couple of rounds of challenging golf not just so-so like other courses. Beautiful grounds bounded by winding river.

The City at it's November meeting at the recommendation of the Manchester Tourism Committee officially changed the name of the Beech Creek Recreational Area to Bert T. Combs Park.  There will be a name change ceremony announced soon.  Bert T. Combs was born on this property and laid to rest adjacent to it.  He was one of KY's most beloved and aggressive for change Governors ever; a visionary that brought hope to the mountains.  We are proud to have had a native son for governor.
